Is it illegal to drive with headphones in Australia?

While technically not illegal, driving with your headphones on is not recommended.

You may still be pulled over and given a warning by police. This is because you will most likely not be able to hear emergency services sirens approaching. They can also be deemed as a distraction and if you get into a crash and kill someone, then guess what….. you are going to jail for manslaughter.

Just fix your car stereo you cheap bastard.

Driving with headphones is legal in;

  • Queensland
  • New South Wales
  • Victoria
  • Australian Capital Territory
  • Tasmania
  • South Australia
  • Western Australia
  • Northern Territory
