While it doesn’t seem right, it is actually not illegal to burn the Australian flag. Unlike in America where it’s a big deal, Australia has no laws in place to charge for deformation of our flag.
There was a bill introduced in 1989 proposing to make this illegal, but it was not passed.
Burning the Australian flag is legal in;
- Queensland
- New South Wales
- Victoria
- Australian Capital Territory
- Tasmania
- South Australia
- Western Australia
- Northern Territory
